Exciting Finishes are on the cards

Iping horse trials on the 24th - 25th July and Little Mattingley on the 31st July - 1st August 2010 provided exciting competition within the The Point Two S.E.E.L Championship. This league provides a season long competition for all event horses within the South- east area and with many new sponsors, the league is set to provide an exciting pinnacle to the eventing season.

In the leading Horse and Rider league, sponsored by Intelligent Worming, Ken Spencer and Caroline Collins’ Nabab Classic moved into 2nd place by 1 point from Pippa Funnell and the top young horse Billy Landretti. Ken won the main Intermediate-Novice class at Iping on the 18.1hh chesnut gelding, who combines his eventing career with hunting and unaffiliated competitions with his owner. The section of the league remains very close with no clear leader, there is still room for a new combination to take the lead, so get your entries in quick!

There is a new leader in the Point Two Grassroots Pre-Novice. Aileen Tizzard and Kavanagh II won BE100 Section H at Iping and came 3rd in BE100 Section B at Little Mattingley, capitalising on Sam Penn and Tickeridge’s absence from these 2 events. As Ian Bareham explained winning the league would be a bonus for Sam Penn and this exciting young horse as their primary purpose is to educate and produce a future top class event horse. Aileen’s results added 18 points to her total after Brightling of 58 points, they now lead the league on 76 points. Aileen also has a commanding lead in the Grassroots Veteran League.

The leading 2 competitors in the Point Two Grassroots Intro moved further away from other competitors, both moving onto 44 points in equal 1st place. Ian Carey and Sharkhams Real McCoy gained a 2nd at Iping and Jan Drewett and Diamond Romance picked up a 6th place at Iping and 3rd place at Little Mattingley.

The Leagues are all set to provide exciting finishes to the season. The League events in August are – Smiths Lawn, Chilham Castle, Firle Place and Highclere Castle, and with exciting prizes for league winners, all competitors should be getting their entries in!

Eventers in the South East Support Local Charities

Following a successful season in 2009 the South East Eventers League made donations to a variety of equestrian charities. The Ebony Horse Club is a charity that helps to improve the life skills, education and attainment of some of the most disadvantaged children and young people growing up in Brixton, South London, by providing access to horse riding, outdoor activities and mentoring. SEEL was delighted to support the charity with a cheque for £250 towards the riding lessons for the children.  For more information about the Ebony Horse Club and to make a donation visit www.ebonyhorseclub.org.uk

SEEL was also delighted to support World Horse Welfare with a donation of £750.World Horse Welfare is driven by the same potent combination of passion and practicality that inspired the founder, Ada Cole, to help horses nearly a century ago. Their belief is that there is no place in the world for neglect of, or cruelty to, horses.  WHW stop the suffering of horses today - by rescuing, rehabilitating and re homing in the UK and providing veterinary care abroad - and preventing the suffering of horses tomorrow, by campaigning, educating and training people. For more information about the work of the charity and to make a donation visit www.worldhorsewelfare.org

Bradbourne RDA group was the third charity to benefit from the eventers in the South East.  Bradbourne have over 250 registered riders and carriage drivers of whom more than 120 ride or drive each week. The charity, which is halfway to raising £100,000 for a new clubhouse, received an initial cheque for £250 from the League, who aims to make a further donation at the end of the 2010 season. Bradbourne RDA welcomes new volunteers and if you are interested in helping the group leave a message for Julie on 07914 273610 or email contact@bradbourne-rda.org.uk.
