Our Introductory evening will be held at Chelwood Equestrian Centre in their
Clubhouse, between 6pm and 9pm on Friday 4th May. This is a brilliant chance
for everyone to meet and exchange ideas and knowledge. There will also be
specialised trainers and representatives of various companies who will be
pleased to answer your queries and discuss their products with Wine and
nibbles will be provided. Please let us know if you would like to attend.
We have talked to the ROR and other organisations who do a fantastic job.
However, we are out of area for the ROR to provide direct support to, so
they have offered to provide guidance and advice, which we will combine
with the knowledge and expertise of other professionals and trainers. It's
heartening to see that there are many of us out there who love our
Thoroughbreds & Ex Racers; who just want to grow and develop together while
having lots and lots of fun. If you're interested in joining in please
come to our introduction evening mentioned above and add yourself as a
friend to our Facebook page so we know what interest there is out there
and can plan numbers. Or if you don't use Facebook, reply by email to
RRR-southeast@live.co.uk and take a look at our
Website
and
Blog.
We cant wait to meet you all.

Badminton Grassroots BE100 Champs Thurs 3rd May 2012
Posted: Thurs 19 April
Less than 2 weeks to go until THE BIG ONE!
This all started just over a year ago, when myself and my mare Nachtigall starting BE eventing for the first time and I would never have guessed all that has happened to bring us to this point. 2011 was a very steep and exciting learning curve, with us finishing as British Eventing Top Foundation Point Horse and Rider, qualified for the Badminton Grassroots Champs 2012 and as the leader in several of the South East Eventers League sections, including BE100, Top Event Mare and overall Grassroots winner - with some incredible prizes organised by the fantastic SEEL team, including a WOW saddle! Not bad considering I am now 40 and Nachtigall is 20 this year!
I am hoping that a winter spent doing BD dressage, with all those 6am starts in the icy cold and dark before work, are going to pay off. So far we have done 3 events this season with an 8th, 11th and then a great 1st at Goring. We are doing our first Novice at South of England, and then again at Nurstead which is just the weekend before Badminton - so I hope that we have got our run up just right.
We have people coming from all over to support us, including France, Germany, Cyprus, America and Canada, and potentially have around 30 "Team Nachtigall" groupies who will be there! We will all be wearing red and white team shirts - and knowing them you will probably be able to hear them before you see them! We would like to represent everyone in the South East area, so please if you are there do come and join our team!!!
Wish us luck!! Sue Eggleton and Nachtigall
GOLDEN CROSS Affiliated SHOW JUMPING DERBY 5th-6th MAY 2012
Posted: Mon 9 April
All roads should lead to Golden Cross Equestrian Centre for the weekend of 5th/6TH h May 2012 for the ever popular Affiliated 'Derby Show'. The show now boasts a prize fund approaching £4000.00 and should attract riders from all over the South East. This is now one of the first shows of the season to run on grass as opposed to the now fashionable all weather surfaces and will give competitors an opportunity to get out before the county show circuit and Hickstead.
The Saturday schedule kicks off with a 95cm Open single phase class to get the show going on time. This is followed by the first of the derby classes, The Liston Equestrian Small Derby for which course builders Keith Bristow and John Farrell are sure to have a few surprises up there sleeves. Following on from this is a scope 1.05 qualifier, Newcomers , 1.15m members cup sponsored by GA Commercials , Foxhunter/1.20m and finally a National 1.30m Qualifier which is sponsored by BS Area 46 which is the first of four qualifiers in the region to decide the Sussex Open Champion for 2012. This concludes the day in the Chalvington ring.
Sunday's classes include, scope qualifiers, The Milbourne Equine 1.05m Open Derby, The Sussex Haylage 1.15m Open Derby ,The Horse and HoundFoxhunter/1.20m,Sponsored by D and D Construction, which will be used by many as the warm up for the final class, being the Clip Clop Traders Eventers Challenge . This class historically ends the show and is for 12 invited Event riders from the home counties pitting their skills against 12 invited Show Jumpers all of which have to be based in the home counties. This class is very similar to the Hickstead version in which, competitors jump a mixture of cross country fences and show jumps, with 5 seconds added for a fence down. Now in its fifteenth year this class has only produced 9 clear rounds.International Event riders invited to the final will include past winners Emily Baldwin , Brook Staples alongside Sam Penn, Lisa Pilbeam, Gemma Tattersall , Sam Jennings and Anna Hilton amongst others., they will be probably challenged by last years winner Lisa Long who gained her first win in this class for the Showjumpers.
*As a special incentive this year in a bid to improve entries and BS membership the BS Tickets to ride will be available at no charge to competitors instead of the normal £6 per class. This will give unregistered combinations an opportunity to compete alongside registered members and give them a taster of the Affiliated circuit. The show is open to the public, refreshments and tradestands are available and the full schedule and online entry facility can be found on www.goldencrossec.co.uk
As usual all the rings will be watered if necessary and aerated if the ground is hard. Courses this year will be built by Keith Bristow and John Farrell.

FAQ
What is SEEL?
The South East Eventers League is a non profit seasonal League for riders competing at British Eventing affiliated one and two day events in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Berkshire and Hampshire. If you are a BE member and are placed at any event held in these counties you can accrue points within a variety of rankings to qualify for fabulous prizes – the Overall Grassroots Winner in 2012 will receive a WOW First Thought Saddle, trophies, cash and other fabulous prizes. We also run training sessions to help you with dressage and show jumping throughout the season and details of these can be found on the website. SEEL is the only regional BE Championship still in existence in the UK thanks in full to our wonderful supporters and sponsors.
What else does SEEL do?
Each year SEEL supports a charity with a connection to riders in this region. In 2012 following Brian Lear’s tragic accident at Hickstead our friends and supporters raised nearly £2000 at the Seahorse Ball alone for Aspire the charity for those with spinal cord injuries.
What does membership cost?
Membership for the season is completely free if you are a British Eventing member – simply visit www.south-east-eventers-league.co.uk and register you and your horse/pony and let us do the rest. After each SEEL event registered riders will receive an email with the latest rankings leader board and any other local news so you can keep an eye on your placing and forthcoming events.
How do I get my prizes?
For the last 16 years SEEL has celebrated the highs and lows of the season at the infamous Seahorse Ball. Your prizes are presented at the gala dinner and the party continues into the early hours of the morning.
What’s new in 2012?
This year we will be adding a new International Award to the rankings which will be presented to the highest placed SEEL rider competing at Ardingly International, Brightling and Firle.

Just a quick bit of news and an opportunity to wish you all a great
Christmas and happy and prosperous New Year, before you know the 2012
season will be on top of us.
Registrations will again be necessary for next season and can be
done from the beginning of January 2012, it only takes a couple of
minutes to do and it enables us to maintain an up to date database.
Here at SEEL we are striving to keep ahead of the game and would
welcome any feedback you may have on anything Eventing in the south
east. We have regular contact with organisers and happy to pass
things on. The Dressage clinics were well received by those who
attended but we really needed more numbers to make it more worthwhile.
The Ball was again an amazing success and had the highest attendance
for many a year, the new SEEL trophies went down really well and
was money well invested. We also managed to raise approx £2000
for the Brian Lear fund through Aspire. If there is anything else
you would like SEEL to try and organise whether it be training or
social please let us know.
If anybody knows of any potential new rankings sponsors could you
please let us know, Mel did a great job on this front last year
and managed to secure deals at the last minute, we hope to announce
what rankings are running next year in January, we do not want to
make the mistake on running unsponsored sections as in the past
and struggle to make up prize money etc from our very limited resources.
We intend to provide SEEL International trophies and possibly
prizes in kind to the highest placed SEEL registered members at
the 2* CIC at Brightling and South of England and the 1* CIC
at Brightling, South of England and the new addition at Firle
in August. This could be an interesting way for anyone
interested in entering into sponsorship to get there name out.
We are also looking into the possibility of monthly SEEL
newsletters if you think they will be well received.
British Showjumping have just done a piece on Golden Cross EC
Owner and SEEL Chairman Ian Bareham, click the link below to
find out more, it surprised many people especially the person
that said, quote, “ I just thought he was a fat bloke who bought
an Equestrian centre”

BLUE CHIP STEP IN TO SPONSOR THE 2011 SEEL RACEHORSE TO EVENTER RANKINGS
Posted: Fri 4th November
Blue chip have stepped in to sponsor the racehorse to eventer rankings at the eleventh hour, they will provide vouchers for the winners who will receive there awards at this years SEEL Ball which takes place on November 12th. Congratulations must go to Justin Clubley for winning this years rankings aboard Taranis
Blue Chip Feed was founded in February 1996 by Clare Blaskey and was named after her horse, Blue Chip.
Having had horses all her life and while working for another feed company, Clare’s customers, many of whom had become friends, suggested that she start her own company. Clare knew there had to be a better way of feeding horses and ponies and contacted The Kentucky Equine Research Station in the USA and told them of her ideas. With the help and encouragement of leading scientists, vets and horse owners, Blue Chip Original was formulated and the rest, as they say, is history. BRIAN LEAR
Posted: Thurs 11th August
Brian Lear is a renowned British Show Jumping course builder and top producer of competition horses in the south east. Tragically his lorry ramp collapsed on him at The Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, he was airlifted to The Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, before being transferred to The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex. Brian has crushed two vertebrae, cracked five others, and he has extensive spinal cord damage, right now the prognosis is poor, Brian currently has no feeling from the waist down.
LMEQ is without doubt one of the best new training facilities in
the Southeast with everything that could be required when training
event horses. The 2 all-weather arenas are huge, the 20x60
dressage arena is floodlit and has training mirrors across the
whole of one end, the 50x60 showjumping arena has a full set of
showjumps including the scarey things like watertrays. Both have
super surfaces which are beautifully maintained as are the 1
mile long gallops which work up a long slight slope - perfect
for fittening work.
The cross country schooling area is fantastic and one to which
I regularly make the 3 hour round trip to use. There is
something for all levels, both horses and riders, with over
80 fences all of which are really well made and inviting and
can be as straightforward or as technical as you like with
various combination fences and a great water complex with
various options in/out. I especially like the fact that there
are some real technical questions but without having to jump
too big, perfect for teaching novices or reminding the older
ones. Matt and his Team are also super helpful, when I asked
if he had a bounce into the water he said 'No, but we can
make one'! They also take great care of the ground,
regularly moving many of the fences which not only keeps
the takeoff/landing zones in good condition but also means
there is something slightly different every time.
